So he swung by Meeka's last classroom as the bell rang and leaned in the door as the class was packing up. "Hey Meek!" he called, waving his hand before swinging himself back out of the room into the hall to wait for his brother. He offered a smile to the other male as he exited the room. "Come on. I'm getting the fuck outta here, thought you might wanna come with," he stated, tilting his head slightly. "Thinking of heading over to Starbucks or something and killing some time, but I'm getting cabin fever being couped up here." And honestly, there were several reasons why he wanted to take Meeka with him.
It had been a long time since the two of them had partaken in a civil conversation with one another alone. The last time they'd been alone, there had been arguments, punches thrown... and finally the deal that had seen him giving up sex and Meeka saying he would try to give up on drugs. It had been difficult, seeing very pretty girls walking all around the school in their mini-skirts and low-cut shirts, and he was sick of it. Looking but not touching. It was like torture. Someone placing a sign on the most ultimate cheeseburger or the last piece of chocolate in the world, and that sign said "Do not eat". It was torture. Beyond torture. It was agonizing. He needed to get away from that temptation. Unfortunately, there were plenty of temptations outside the school too.
That was what Meeka was for. An incentive to keep him from straying on their deal. He looked over at the other male with a smile. "Come on," he urged, tugging on the other's sleeve and he moved out of the building and towards the town. It didn't take them long to reach Starbucks, and he went up to the little counter area and ordered a white chocolate mocha and a roasted tomato panini. He stepped aside, waiting for the other male to order, smiling as he ordered a cold drink before he reached out, grabbing hold of his own order as it came up and grabbed a table, sitting down. He looked up at Meeka as he came back over too. "See? Now isn't this great? It's been a while since just you and I sat down for drinks, you know..." he confessed.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;]when you're young like this you're supposed to party Words: 957 Outfit: HERE Notes: HE'S NUMB. meeka was numb. he couldn't feel hatred or bitterness or anger, which was a major plus, but he also couldn't feel happiness or take joy in any of the little things. he couldn't feel pain, but he almost wished he could. eventually he knew that he would be able to handle the numbness and pretend to move on with his life like nothing was wrong, but for now, the numbness was agonizing in itself. he tuned out the teacher, doodling on the corner of his page for the first few minutes of class, but eventually he just zoned out and was left staring at the desktop until he heard the bell ring. even then, he probably wouldn't have even reacted if he hadn't heard his name being shouted from the hallway. "fucking lovely." he grumbled softly, slamming his book closed before tucking it in his bag and throwing it over his shoulder. he could honestly care less if there was homework to be done or if he was supposed to be taking notes. right now the only thing he was worried about was that his older brother wanted his attention.
what had he done this time? his mind was racing on what carter could have possibly found out that he did wrong or what he could want, but the only thing that came to mind was drugs. had carter found out that he hadn't been entirely clean since their last fight? or worse. he winced at the idea of what carter could have found out about him. while he didn't seem angry or even flustered, meeka knew well that carter had a temper on him. his brother was almost as good at playing stupid as he was. with a sigh, he lifted from his chair and shuffled toward the door in a mopy way, more than ready to get his ass kicked around a little bit, but once he saw his brothers face he knew that there was nothing he had to be worried about. it was only then that he allowed himself to return the smile that sat on the other male's lips. "what do you want?" he asked in a semi teasing manner, though there was something in his tone that was curious nonetheless.
the only thing that came to mind when carter mentioned getting out of the school was one thing: drugs. every time he thought of leaving, it always came down to the high. unfortunately, he knew that he couldn't seek out anything like that with his brother tagging along. "starbucks, or something?" he said, his eyebrow arching slightly, though he took it easily. he'd wanted to get out of this school for a while, but he didn't really feel like going out alone. meeka wasn't the type to need to have a group of people around him every time he went out, but he didn't like to be all alone either. maybe this would be a good chance to go out and have some good clean fun. kind of. unless it ended in a fist fight or a drug binge. he rolled his eyes at the thought and forced himself to nod in agreement to the idea. "starbucks sounds great. i could kill for some coffee." after all, meeka practically bled caffeine.
the majority of the way to the building, meeka didn't bother to say a word. he was too zoned out in thought to really say much when it came to coherent thought. he let carter blabber on about this and that, nodding once in a while or shooting him a lazy smile to make it seem as if he were paying attention, though he hadn't truly processed a word since they'd left the school. the only thing that brought him back to reality was the soft ding that went off as he pushed open the door. he didn't even know what he wanted yet, but he felt better. "i just want a peppermint mocha frappuccino." he said simply, tucking his hands in his pockets. it was very rare that meeka actually drank anything hot, but he did like his coffee. maybe it was a little girly that he liked to drink the sweet blended coffee, but he didn't truly care. cold coffee was one of his guilty pleasures, after all. his eyes drifted over to his brother as his drink came up, moving away from the counter in a way that almost came across as bored, but it was more sluggish and burnt out than anything.
before drugs, meeka probably would have offered to pay for the whole 'trip' just to be nice. before drugs, he could have ordered half the menu and greedily eaten every bite. before drugs, meeka would have been full of life, chatting and laughing with his brother over silly things like the way the waitress's nails were at least an inch too long or the way apron hugged all the wrong curves of her body. he would have made a witty comment about how carter wouldn't have any temptation here with that lady around. instead, meeka slid into the booth and moved his straw around his cup lazily, silence filling the air between them. the only thing that forced his gaze upward was carter's voice. he was obviously trying to get his attention, though it wasn't working all that well. "it has been a little while, i guess." he almost expected for his brother to add on that if he had been around more, they would have done this more often, but it never came. had carter forgiven him? meeka seriously doubted it. "how have you been?" he asked softly, obviously a sorry attempt on his part to try and start some kind of conversation. |

He wasn't the same brother that Carter remembered. He knew that the other male was going through a hard time, but so was he. He was really trying hard to resist going about with strange girls all the blessed time, but he knew that his brother would probably be having a worse time than he himself was. He just wished he knew how to help the other male. He just wanted his brother back. He laughed softly as the other restated what he'd said in the form of a question. "Yeah, just... something. Get out of this school for a bit," he stated again, nodding slightly. He really didn't give a shit where they went so long as it was away from the school. He noded when the other male stated that Starbucks sounded great because he could kill for some coffee. He chuckled softly, nodding slightly. Some things would never change. Once there, and Carter had paid for their stuff, they were sitting down again. He cast a glance towards Meeka as they sat down, and he picked up half of his panini and took a bite as he watched the other as he stated that it had been a while. "Yeah, I'll say. I don't know if I can even remember the last time we just sat down together was," he said honestly. Hell, it might even have been on his birthday when Meeka had given him the jacket that he was currently wearing. That had been one of his better birthdays. He looked back up as the other asked how he'd been. "Um.. alright, I guess. Bored more than anything I think. Oh, except I had this one teacher of mine get on my back 'cause he saw me talking to a girl." He rolled his eyes slightly at the memory of Justin Davis. "I mean honestly, it was in the middle of the friggin' hallway and she just stopped to talk to me." He shook his head slightly. "People look at me and treat me like I've got some kind of... I dunno... contagious disease or something. I can't tell you how many tests I've had run on me since I got here, I swear, I should start charging for my blood," he added in all seriousness. "My counselor is... he seems to think that there's something else wrong with me. Something about a personality disorder that makes me crave sex or something."And stealing. He looked up at the other male, wondering if perhaps maybe Meeka had the same disorder and that was why they were so screwed up all together, and were just exhibiting different symptoms. "It got me to thinking that maybe there's a reason for the way that we are..." he said simply, looking down at his plate. He'd done a bit of research on what it was to have borderline personality disorder... and it was hard to distinguish from something like drug addiction or sex addiction. With his and Meeka's tempers... their impulsive shoplifting, and their fucked up childhoods, it could very well be that they both had it. "How are you?" he asked, looking across at the younger male. He worried about his brother, he really did. He took another bite of the panini before he remembered the reason he'd wanted to spend time with the other male. "Actually... I wanted to just sit with you for a reason," he stated, leaning back and digging into his coat pocket and pulling out a necklace and bracelet that matched his own. He placed it on the table and slid it across towards the other male. "Destiny... she mad these in school for you, me, and Lexi..." he said softly. He watched the other male carefully. Meeka just hadn't been around for her to give them to him herself. "Before I left... I promised her that I'd give these to you. She told me to tell you to think of the necklace like a hug... that every time you wear it, to just imagine that its her hugging your neck," he said simply, watching the other male carefully. He himself never even took his off from the moment that she'd given them to him... and if he knew his brother, he knew that Meeka likely would always be wearing it as well. [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;]when you're young like this you're supposed to party Words: 1132 Outfit: HERE Notes: HERE'S YOUR SIGN. meeka remembered the last time the two collin brothers were able to sit down for more than a few minutes and have a fight. he would honestly admit that he didn't remember a whole lot about the past year or so of his life because typically it all could be sorted into two groups: pain or blurred. he only remembered the last time he had sat down with carter like this so clearly because it was the last time he remembered ever being truly happy. he remembered sitting around the table, picking on his sister Jazz for trying to do her make up alone (unsuccessfully, he might add). it had been carter's birthday and surprisingly, birthdays actually meant a lot in their family, despite the fact that most of them typically went off and did their own thing the majority of the time. birthdays brought the family together. he'd been trying to think of the perfect time to give his brother the present he'd lifted, but ever the gushy pre-drugged meeka, he wanted to be able to give the jacket to carter in a way that they would both be able to bond over. he wanted the present to mean something.
it wasn't just a present, in his eyes. to meeka, it was a reminder of their future. both boys wanted more than anything to go into the service at the first chance they had to enlist and they were going to do it together. why together? because they had each others backs. after helping get the younger of the siblings to bed and coloring with destiny for a little while, meeka had followed his brother out to the porch and gave him the jacket, all smiles and warmth. when was the last time he'd smiled like that? he used to always smile and be so light-hearted. when did he get so dark? avoiding his brother's gaze to avoid any kind of awkwardness, he couldn't help but wonder if the other had really forgotten the last time they'd had a 'brotherly moment'. "i do. but that was a long time ago." he said softly, looking down at his coffee. it wasn't long after that birthday that meeka got hooked. just a few weeks after giving carter the same jacket he was wearing today, meeka had started waking up in ditches and turning cold.
turning into his father.
he shivered and pulled his jacket tighter around him, even though he knew well that it wouldn't stop him from being cold -- or remembering. his eyes lifted sharply at the mention of being scolded for talking to a girl, irritation gushing from his pores. "what's wrong with you talking to girls?" he asked, watching his brother in disbelief. "so just because you talked to a girl, someone thought you were instantly going to sleep with her?" while normally he wouldn't put it past carter to try, he knew that his brother was seriously trying to go through with their deal. "that's bullshit, man. they can't expect for you to just never talk to another girl in your life." his eyes narrowed slightly at the mention of all of the tests that had been run on him, though meeka couldn't say a word. he'd been tested for diseases more times than he can remember. the main concern was always hiv because of all of the needles he went through, but meeka wasn't stupid. he knew how to use a clean needle and he knew when he could or couldn't trust someone. he always came up clean, and while he knew that he was always safe when it came to shooting up, it also scared him to no end. all it took was one time...
he shook his head to clear his nervous thoughts, noticing that he had probably been sitting there silently for a lot longer than he'd intended to. he took a drink of his coffee and let his eyes wander for a few moments longer before returning his gaze to carter again. well of course there was something wrong with him. there was something wrong with both of them. they were addicted to sex and drugs, just like their parents. but a personality disorder? "what kind of shit is that?" he said letting out a hoarse laugh in total disbelief. "you don't honestly believe that bullshit, do you? carter, they get paid to tell you that you're crazy." he tried to reason, shooting him a look that almost could be taken as pleading, but there was something too rough about it. he didn't want to think about the idea that there could actually be a legitimate reason for him to be in this stupid school other than his overly worried sister and his drug addiction.
how was he? was that a serious question or did he just want to be sure that meeka wasn't thinking about killing himself or relapsing again? oops, already been there, done that. he thought to himself bitterly, taking another drink of his coffee silently before looking up again with a shrug. "cold. tired. bored. lonely." he admitted, though his eyebrow lifted slightly at the mention of there being a reason behind wanting to sit down like this. here it came. carter was going to mention that he looked worse than he had previously. he was going to mention that his shakes had started again and his eyes looked more bloodshot than usual. he would question him and meeka wouldn't be able to lie and say that he had been sober this entire time. he waited for the questions, but they never came. instead, two pieces of jewelry were set on the table in front of them, causing all kinds of questions to come to mind. it wasn't until he realized that they were a gift from back home that he felt himself tense up so much more than he had previously.
if carter would have asked him questions, sure he would have felt guilty, but it was something he could cope with. this wasn't something he could handle. while his family was always on his mind, he never really thought about how all of this was effecting them back home. he was silent, looking at the pieces in front of him for a few minutes before feeling wetness on his cheeks. he hadn't even realized he was crying until his vision was blurred and he couldn't make out the design on the necklace any more. "shit.." he groaned, wiping his eyes with the heels of his palms roughly, hating the fact that he was blubbering over something this simple in the middle of a starbucks. "god, look at me.. i'm blubbering like a fucking queer." he laughed at himself through the tears, wiping at his cheeks with annoyance. |

It was hard to forget, as it had been the last birthday he'd spent with Meeka. Even this last birthday... which had been spent here at this god-forsaken school, he'd been by himself. He hadn't wanted the whole big family to-dos since Meeka wasn't around so often. He looked over at the other male carefully, wondering what was going through his mind to keep him so quiet. Was this just... part of the new Meeka? The strong and silent type? He looked down at his food, picking at the panini before taking another small bite then taking a drink from his mocha. When the other male stated that he remembered the last time that they'd sat down together. "The last time that I remember was the birthday when you gave me this jacket... always wear it... reminded me that I had a brother out there who needed me," he said softly to the other male. He wasn't sure how realistic their dreams of going into the military was going to be anymore. Did they let addicts in? He wasn't even sure. Did Meeka even want to go in anymore? He missed his brother, they used to talk about everything together, but they'd grown apart. He didn't even know what Meeka wanted anymore. That scared a part of him that was deep and he worried even more. Had he really been so blind to the other male? He watched as the other pulled his jacket a bit tighter around him as if he were cold. Was the withdrawl still hitting him so bad? He reached out slowly, placing a hand on his brother's arm gently, squeezing lightly to show the other male that he wasn't alone in all of this. He smiled as the other asked what was wrong with him talking to girls. "Apparently. It was some new teacher though... the young one... ah... teaches Gym. Mr. Davis is his name. Claimed to be able to relate to me because he used to think about sex all the time too. God, I hate when they try to relate to you, you know? 'Cause its like "Hey, mother fucker. You don't know shit about me except what's written on lists in a file up in the administration wing, so back the fuck off." I hate it when they play like they know me just to prove a fucking point, you know?" He ranted easily, shaking his head slightly. "Then this guy tries to tell me I need to focus more on my studies than on girls." He gave his brother a dead-panned look. "Yeah. Me. I need to focus more on my studies. It's like... did he even look at my grades? No, he just assumed I was a shitty student. Pisses me off." He shook his head again and took another drink from his mocha. When the other asked him if he believed the bullshit about having borderline personality disorder, he simply shrugged. "I honestly don't know shit about that kinda thing, Meek. So I don't know one way or the other, and frankly, I don't give a shit. If I've got it well... whatever, but that's not why I'm here. I mean, do you honestly think Lexi could have known?" he shook his head slightly. He finished off the first half of his panini at this point as he watched the other while Meeka stated that he'd been cold, tired, bored and lonely. "Lonely? Maybe you and I should hang out a little more. You know, maybe make this a thing... getting together in the afternoon for coffee? Eating lunch or something together? I miss hanging out with you, Meeka. We had the absolute best times ever." They were quite a team, actually. He missed having his partner in crime at his side. It just wasn't the same working the streets without him back home. But then... there were tears on the other's face. His eyes widened slightly. Had he done something wrong? He watched him for a moment before he got up, glad that the little shop wasn't exactly crowded. "Hey, hey, Meek, it's alright." he said simply, moving around the table and pulling his brother up into a hug. "It's alright, hey, hey, what's wrong, man?" he asked, lightly rubbing the other's back gently. [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;]when you're young like this you're supposed to party Words: 1214 Outfit: HERE Notes: HE'S COCKY! it shocked meeka that carter actually remembered the last time they'd spent any kind of time together. at the time, he had figured that his brother was just playing the good guy by smiling and nodding as he had blabbed on about their future and how it had looked so bright. he'd went on and on about how they would get out of the slums and actually make something of themselves, so long as they were together, but now the memory just made him want to laugh. meeka definitely wasn't going anywhere. he knew that carter could get a scholarship to just about any college he wanted and could get a great job and make something of himself, but where did that leave meeka? sure, he was good at sports, but any good college sports team would require drug testing and he knew that he would fail every single time. hell, most decent jobs required a drug test and while he might be able to get clean long enough to pass a couple piss tests or cheat a couple of them, he knew that eventually someone would catch on. meeka was going nowhere in life and he knew it. he was no better than his deadbeat dad.
"you still have a brother that needs you. that didn't change, carter. just because there isn't much you can do to help me doesn't mean that i don't need you." he said, surprised by his words. it was actually starting to feel relaxing, talking so openly like this. he missed being able to tell his older brother everything and not have to worry about being judged for it. when meeka had no where else to turn in the world and no one else to go to, carter would always at least pretend to listen and understand. he had half a mind to pull away from the other male and turn in on himself, but he didn't. he let carter touch him and pretended as if it was comforting, even though it just made him feel that much more sullen. his frown grew more as he thought about how a new guy could come in and just assume something like that about a person. sure, a few months ago meeka would have been right up there with the guy, suggesting that carter shouldn't talk to girls... but he was trying and he could see that.
carter was a lot of things, but he would always stay true to his word when it came to meeka. when it came to loyalty, he was one of the only ones that meeka knew he could trust with anything. while he had fallen through and went back to his bad habits a few times since their deal, he was sure that his brother had at least tried his hardest to stay true to his word. "i know. i mean, i guess they're just trying to make us feel like we're not alone... but everyone handles things differently." he said softly, shrugging off the idea, though his mind kept reverting back to rowa. it had relaxed him a little to know that he could talk to someone who had been through the same pain that he had, though it still bothered him. it irritated him beyond belief that someone had the nerve to tell his brother to pay attention to his studies more. out of everyone at that stupid school, meeka was almost positive that carter probably had the best grades there. he was street smart more than anything, but he definitely knew how to be book smart. he was a pit of useless knowledge and problem solving skills. if there was anything about carter that meeka truly admired, it was that he was brilliant.
sure, meeka was pretty damn smart too when it came to school, but everything about him was hood. he knew what to say to get himself out of trouble and how to con people into giving him what he wanted and how to take care of himself. he knew how to scrap to defend himself and he knew how to steal to support himself without getting caught. "i would have kicked his ass." he said honestly, not even bothering to hide the irritation that was free flowing from him now. no one disrespected his brother. no one. not even his own father would disrespect carter without feeling meeka's wrath. he tried not to laugh out loud when he heard his sister's name. so maybe he still resented his older sister a little bit. he hated that she had sent him away. "fuck you, man. i'm not... lonely... i mean... i have friends..." that was a lie. meeka only associated with a hand full of people and more of them were only people that he spent time around because he knew that he could get in their pants pretty easily. "i just... i don't know. i feel alone." and that was the truth. he felt as if he were doing this all alone, even though he knew that he had more than enough support.
he heard the words of comfort before he felt carter move around the table to try and soothe him. he wasn't entirely sure if he wanted to allow his brother to hug him or try and cheer him up, but he didn't fight out of the hug like he normally would. for once, it felt good to hug someone. it felt great to be comforted by someone that he knew cared about him. he had always had a hard time letting carter play the big brother and show affection since he'd started taking drugs, simply because he didn't like people to touch him, but for once, he wanted to revert back to his old habits. he wanted to be able to pull carter into a hug and not let go until the shivers stopped and he didn't know how to cry any more. he had felt so alone in all of this, but now he knew that at he at least had his sister and brother as a support system. sure, he had a couple of other people that wanted to see him get healthy and happy, but it was his family that really mattered to him. the collins had always been so tight knit. when meeka went off in his own direction and carter started acting out soon after, he knew that it had ripped the family apart to some extent. he thought that he had ruined everything.
from the way that carter was hugging him and at least trying to comfort him, meeka could tell that their family was still just as strong and loving and supporting, though they were going through a rough patch. he had originally went limp in his brother's arms as he felt himself being tugged into a hug, but now his arms circled carter's waist firmly, silently begging for him to stay right where he was. "i can't keep bottling things up any more... it's killing me inside. i'm so tired of feeling like i'm alone all of the time..." he admitted through choked sobs, though they slowly were starting to die down and his breathing was starting to relax. "i can't keep doing this, carter. i can't." |

Just because there wasn't much he could do to help didn't mean that he wasn't still needed. "That's why I'm still here, Meeka. Do you honestly think that this place could keep me here if I didn't choose to be?" he asked simply, tilting his head. He could have been out of Seattle by sundown that first day had he not known that Meeka had been at that very same school. He was sure he probably could have hacked the computers at the airport easily enough and forged himself a plane ticket. He had gotten into some pretty high security systems before. He offered a smile to his younger brother at that point. "I got your back, man." He would always have Meeka's back. It was his whole goal for sticking around this little hell hole. The little hell hole where he apparently couldn't even look at girls, let alone talk and/or date one. Made him want to punch something, it really did. Like that pretty-boy teacher's face. He was trying. Okay, so he was talking to girls. But he wasn't screwing any of them. He didn't even talk to them about sex. He was trying to find an easy middle ground. Not to much, but just enough to keep him sane. How was he supposed to do that? There were girls all over the place, so what, he wasn't allowed to talk to them? That's like asking a guy on a diet of kale to ignore the aroma of a Wendy's baconator with cheese walking by him. And if he stopped talking to girls and just hung out with guys then what? They'd probably think he was screwing around with them too. Oh, he's moved on from girls to guys! So what then? Put him in isolation for the rest of his teenage life? Where did it stop? How much was too much? In his eyes, it had already gone way beyond to much. He looked up at Meeka as he said that they were just trying to make them feel like they weren't alone. "But you see, that's just it. Aren't all of us really alone? We fail or succeed not by them... but because of ourselves. What do they do except stand on the sidelines and cheer? We're the ones playing the game, scoring the points or earning the fouls." He shook his head slightly. "They're just spectators, betting on which side is going to win."He took another drink of the mocha as the other stated he'd have kicked Davis's ass. He smirked slightly. "It was close, man. If there hadn't been a desk between my foot and his ass... I think I nearly threw a chair at him... or maybe I did throw a chair, I don't quite remember I was so pissed." He shook his head again before the other male stated that he had friends he just felt like he was alone. Carter watched his brother in all seriousness. He didnt' want his brother to feel alone. He didn't want for Meeka to feel like he had no support, that there was no one left who would be there for him. So perhaps that was part of the reason for his hug, part of the reason that he continued to hold his younger brother even past the time when he normally would have let go. "You don't have to bottle shit up anymore, Meek. And you are never alone. Ever. I will always be here for you, Meeka. Days, nights, weekends, holidays... and everything in between. You aren't getting rid of me. We're blood, remember? I'm right here with you, Meek." He pressed his face against Meeka's neck for a moment, one hand moving up to press against the back of the other's head and neck while the other remained wrapped around his brother. "I'm never gonna let you fall, Meeka. I'm right here to catch you. A good soldier never leaves a man behind."[style=font-family:Century Gothic; text-align:center; font-size: 10px]lyrics of (i wanna be) your underwear by bryan adams. table by (( aurora !! of Caution 2.0.
