His mother, father, and two siblings were hit by a drunk driver on their way to see Asher in a high-school production of Beauty and the Beast. Asher was so emotionally struck by this event that he became mute for approximately five years of his life. He went on to live with a very supportive aunt and uncle, and spent much of his time in intensive therapy. By the time he graduated from college, having studied psychology and education, he was able to leave therapy behind and function normally once again. He then went on to get a Master's degree in family and adolescent counseling, and shortly thereafter, he was hired to work at St. Helena's. He has worked here for five or six years. Most people know that he is very passionate about and dedicated to his job as a teacher and a counselor. Teaching is his life, and it's definitely reflected in interactions with his students. He also carries around the most adorable teacup poodle named Bella, though he often refers to her as Bella-Boo. She's often present at his therapy sessions and he uses her to help loosen the kids up a little. He cares very deeply for the students, their success, and their well being. There is no going unnoticed when he's around: if you look sad or tired or upset, he'll bring it up and try to see what's wrong with you. He has very open communication with his students and texts them often. But let's be clear here. He is not a pushover and he will have none of your bullshit. Mr. Wyndham is a rule-breaking, anarchical student's worst nightmare. Although he focuses exclusively on the American Civil War, he takes time to expose students to other wars designated as "civil wars" to compare and contrast, and to see how the American Civil War is unique amongst all of them. The course may be different than some you've taken, as he doesn't do multiple-choice, practice-and-drill style assessments. The course is very reading- and writing-intensive, and most of the class time is used for the students to have an open discussion on profound topics. (He provides all the reading materials, and there is no class textbook.) He strives to make the classroom climate warm, welcoming, and nonjudgmental. Tests are usually very low-key and mostly include written responses where students can use notes. [/style]TEMPLATE BY SAMARECARM OF OTE + BTN |
