[/style][/style][/style] Kaelan was in his dorm room, working on one of many art projects he had going. He could not sleep. It was going to be a long night, he could tell already. Curfew had well since past and everyone was supposed to be in bed, though Kae figured there were scragglers about and people not where they were supposed to be. It was not uncommon, after all. They might have been "troubled teens", but they were still teens. Kae seriously considered going to Micky's room to bug his best friend; but, he figured that if Mick was actually asleep, he should stay that way. Micky did not often sleep well anymore, and that worried the elder teen. He wished there was something he could do about it. With a sigh, Kaelan sat down the charcoal pencil he was using to draw with and closed his sketch book, suddenly feeling the need to get out of that dorm room. Fuck curfew. The British boy was still dressed from the day and he grabbed a coat that was draped over his desk chair, tugging it on before making sure he had his keys, wallet, phone, bag with his other sketchbook and utensils, camera... Once he was sure he had everything, he turned off the desk lamp and headed out of the room. He moved quietly and slowly, not wanting to alert any of the staff wandering about. He slowly peeked around corners and used the stairs instead of the elevators. Soon enough, he was slipping out of one of the side doors in the dorm, letting out a heavy breath. It was good to be back in the open. He had been feeling more than just a little cramped there in the building. Kae shoved his hands into his coat pocket as he walked aimlessly toward town. He had no real plan other than finding somewhere to go that was not on campus. It was highly likely he was going to be in trouble if they did a bed check and he was not there. Oops. Oh well. Kaelan was not wandering around for too long when he found himself at the local IHOP. It was fairly empty there, but Kae did not mind that. It was what he wanted. He knocked the snow off his shoes there on the rug by the main door before actually going inside and requested a booth by a window. Once there, he ordered a coffee, just some coffee, with a mumbled "Thank you," to the waitress, and pulled out his sketchbook to start working. There was a faint din of conversation and the way too early played holiday music over the speakers and the hum of the heater. Other than that, and the occasional noises associated with a restaurant and people eating, it was quiet. Kaelan kind of wished that he knew more people, so that he could have asked someone to go with him. It was kind of depressing just being there alone. He did notice, though, sometime later, that a vaguely familiar face of someone from the school came in. Maybe they would not mind if Kaelan joined them. He knew he would not mind if the other person sat with him. It saved him from just being alone.

'' take your past and burn it up and let '' it go , c a r r y on i'm s t r o n g e r than you'll ever know It was just going to be one of those nights. After staring blankly at the ceiling for what felt like hours, and possible was, Noah was giving up on the idea of sleep. He knew that he could take some sort of pill and it would knock him out but becoming dependent on medicine to sleep really wasn’t okay with him. It was better to just not sleep, at least in his opinion. The best cure for a lack of sleep would be to go find someone to fuck. But at this hour that could be a little hard, considering most normal people would be sleeping by now. For a moment he pondered going and finding Mason, his best friend, because surely he would be awake by now. He also had sleeping problems. But he decided against going and bothering him on the off chance he was sleeping. Plus he had that odd little roommate of his, who actually did sleep.
Noah rolled out of his bed, still dressed from the day since he had known well before laying down that he just simply wasn’t tired. Humming, he wandered off to the bathroom and flipped on the light. It was just for long enough for him to check his appearance. He was quite the stickler on his appearance, even this late in the morning. Digging his fingers into his hair, he ruffled it around a bit and then turned the light back off. Now satisfied that he was still presentable, Noah shuffled on out of his dorm. Quietly and as quick as possible he made his ways through the halls, peeking around corners to make sure that staff weren’t on the other side.
Once he was finally free of the school, Noah eventually wandered his happy little self on towards IHOP. At least there he might be able to find someone to talk to, perhaps coerce into going back to his dorm with him. Or, at the very lease he would be able to get himself a nice cup of hot chocolate. It was rather cold out, especially with all the snow. Noah shivered, despite wearing a hoodie and a denim vest over it. It was probably not the most practical thing to wear this time of year, he realized. Too late though. A sigh of relief escaped his pierced lips as he entered the IHOP and the warmth engulfed him. The waitress turned, giving him a surprised look, probably due to his appearance, before she offered him a smile. Noah ignored her for the moment, looking around to see if he recognized anyone. No, not really. And then he spotted the kid off to the side, sitting at a booth by himself. Well, not just any kid but a very attractive one.
Taking the menu h was offered; Noah muttered thanks to the woman and then made a beeline towards the kid. He dumped himself into the booth, sliding in so he was directly across from the guy. It was probably rude to not even ask if he wanted company but Noah figured he should feel blessed by his appearance and grateful, if anything. Noah ordered himself a hot chocolate before directing his attention to the guy across from him. ”Hey. I’m..” He paused, suddenly realizing that there was Christmas music playing. Noah’s eyebrows pursed as he looked up at the ceiling with an annoyed look. ”..Are they seriously already playing this shit? It’s still a month away..who wants to listen to Taylor Swift, yet alone hear her butchering Christmas songs..” He mused, completely sidetracked from introducing himself.

[/style][/style][/style] His wonderings about whether or not to sit with the St. Helena's student that came in were cut short by the other teen just walking over and sitting with him. "Oh, thank you," Kaelan said to the waitress who brought him more coffee right at that moment and he started to doctor up what he poured into his cup as the other teen started to introduce himself, only to break off and talk about the music choice. Kaelan saw nothing wrong with it, really. It was almost Thanksgiving, and the singer was not that bad. "She is not that bad," Kae mused in his typically quiet, accented voice. There were definitely worse singers out there, and obviously society had shown you did not even have to have talent to be famous. The woman playing, at least, could play guitar even if her voice was not the best. Kae found beauty in imperfections, however. He would much rather listen to her than someone with a completely perfect voice that was modeled by training and auto tune. No, it was the breaks and catches that gave a song personality. Kaelan liked it. "Maybe you should enjoy the season more. Nothing wrong with a little head start." It was the Christmas stuff before Halloween that really just blew Kae's mind. He did not get it at all. Why? Just... why? He wanted to enjoy his Halloween without seeing Christmas trees on displya, dammit. "I'm Kaelan." He wondered if his own introduction would remind the other teen of his incomplete introduction. Kae really did not like not knowing the other boy's name. It made it awkward and difficult to talk to him when the only thing he could call the other teen in his head was boy. Kae frowned at the thought and took a drink of his coffee before looking at the other teen more. He had a very... harsh look, one that was very intriguing. The teen was very attractive, but to be honest, he found the soft features of his best friend to be more enticing, not that he ever thought things like that too often; but, still. It was true. Mickey was highly attractive, and it always bewildered Kaelan that the teen did not have people lining up to get with him.The British teen did not mind, though. He had always found it was harder to spend time with a friend if they were hung up on someone. They would rather be with their significant other, and that was just... not cool. "Why are you awake this late? Or early, I guess, if you just woke up."

'' take your past and burn it up and let '' it go , c a r r y on i'm s t r o n g e r than you'll ever know Noah tilted his head, turning his eyes back down upon the student across from him as he spoke. He disagreed, saying that the singer wasn’t too bad. Well, he supposed that was his opinion but he disagreed. ”Whatever.” He said with a shrug. Noah really had no interest in what the other kids preferences for music was and what he liked or disliked. There were worse things out there, and certainly some of it was other Christmas songs. It was probably just his natural grumpiness shining through which made him irritable with just about everything. Christmas was always such a happy little holiday, for most people, but his memories were far from the fondest.
An eyebrow raised at the suggestion. ”No thanks. What’s there to enjoy? Spending money on presents? For who?” Noah had little friends, and his family had more or less disowned him. He really doubted that he and Mason would exchange gifts. Actually, that was pretty laughable. Perhaps the gift of a round of sex. That was more likely than an actual present. He supposed perhaps he could get is sister something, but overall he had no interest in that either. Noah was sure she would send him something. She really was the only one who cared about him. Overall he was generally just a total Grinch about the holiday season though.
Noah flashed the other kid a smile when he introduced himself. That’s right, he had completely forgotten about the fact that he had been introducing himself before the Christmas music distracted him. ”Hey. I’m Noah.” He finished, with a small nod of his head. ”Kaelan..that’s an interesting name.” Interesting in a good way. Noah was always attracted to things that were outside the norm. If his outward appearance wasn’t enough to prove that already. Kaelan had a very simple appearance but I was still pleasing to Noah. There was something about him that simply struck him as innocent. That was always intriguing to him as well. Innocent was always interesting to poke around with. Perhaps he could entertain himself for a while by flustering up this kid. Who knew what could happen. It was worth a shot.
Reaching out, he took the cup of hot chocolate as it was placed down on the table and pulled it closer. His fingers wrapped around it carefully, enjoying the warmth radiating from the cup. ”Oh no, I didn’t just wake up. I’ve been awake since early this morning.” He answered with a shrug. ”I’ve got insomnia..so, I couldn’t fall asleep and I refuse to take those stupid pills. They don’t really work anways..” Noah finished explaining. It was often enough that he only slept a few hours a day, if any, and that was just what his body was used to by now. Sure, every few days he might get overly tired and crash though. ”What about you? Have a nightmare or are you in the same boat as I am?” It wouldn’t surprise him. This place was full of messed up kids, kids that had issues sleeping, amongst many other things. Noah lifted his cup and took a careful sip of it and watched Kaelan over the top as he waited for an answer.

[/style][/style][/style] Kaelan really did not say much to the other teen's obvious cynical nature about the entire holiday. Not everyone could find the simplicity in it, after all. Christmas, to him, was not about gifts. However, he guessed that not everyone would see it that way. It was rather sad, if he thought about it. He was not even Christian and he found the holiday to be one of enjoying the little things; friends, family, the fact that you were alive, a significant other. It was more than just gifts, though Kae knew many believed that was all it was. Noah. The boy's name was Noah. Kaelan was yet to decide whether this boy annoyed him or intrigued him. He seemed to be very in-your-face, and that had the tendency to get more than just a little annoying. He was never really fond of those type of people. They tended to bring out the worst in him. They were the ones that provoked more of a manic state out of him. It was not always a good thing. However, that did not mean Kae was going to just turn away from every person out there that was like that. There was always a chance that it could be different. "It's Gaelic, Kaelan explained about his name. It meant uncertain, which, to him, was quite amusing as it fit him so very well. There was a lot in Kae's life that he was very uncertain about, things that he was not sure he'd ever really be certain about. Kaelan's "simple" appearance was not always as simple as it seemed. He was constantly changing hair styles, adding and removing piercings. He was never someone to go as extreme with his look as Noah did. It was interesting. Kae had a strong urge to reach out and play with the other teen's hair, but he did not. He kept his hands to himself, respecting personal boundaries, since he himself was not always that fond of people touching him. He listened politely as Noah explained why he was there at almost two o'clock in the morning, taking a sip of his coffee before adding a little more sugar to it. Kae absently wet his lips and flicked his hair out of his eyes, though the hat on his head kept the strands from moving very far at all. "Couldn't sleep," he answered with a shake of his head. More than once, people had offered him medication when he went long periods of time without sleeping well. However, Kae did not take medication, period. There was just no way. The only time Kaelan would take anything was if he was in a manic state, and then he was known to drink, smoke pot, or use ecstasy as well. He never used anything else, simply because he, even when he was not fully aware of himself, did not want a dependancy on something so ridiculous.
"I had been working," Kae said, gesturing to his sketchbook, "when I got this really strong urge to just get out of the dorms. It made it difficult to concentrate. The word is 'anyway', actually, by the way. 'Anyways' is not a word." Kae really disliked when people pasted that "s" onto the end of the word. It was just annoying and sounded ridiculous. Maybe it was just how he was raised, though. Everyone he knew was always taught to never stick an "s" on the end. It bothered him almost as much as a lot of the Southern slang he had heard since moving to the States. It made him miss home and cling tighter to his own accent. He did not want to sound like a lot of the idiots he had run into over the years. "I don't believe in taking drugs of any kind, though many insist they would help me... perscription drugs, anyway. I do not like them." Kae was not sure why he was sharing that bit of information, maybe because of Noah's mention of taking sleeping medication. Either way, what was said was said and he could not exactly take it back or anything.

Post by Savvana May Birch on Nov 26, 2012 15:33:16 GMT -6
She entered the building with a sigh. She warmth of the IHOP was comforting, and so was the mingled low buzz of chatting customers and waiters. She held her jacket folded over her forearms, hanging as if she were a butler. A young woman much like herself dressed in proper waitress attire greeted Savvana with a silver-smile. Her braces provided a lisp within her voice as she offered Sav a table. Nodding to the waitress, the two walked to a booth. " Sydney will be your server today. Wait here and she'll be here shortly .. " the waitress informed, dishing out a menu and a small bundle which was assumed to be a fork, spoon and a knife.
Opening the laminated flap, her eyes went over all the things they had. The seasonal dishes looked somewhat appetizing. Or.. maybe she'd just go for a drink. She flipped the menu, surveying the options. Coffee, Cocoa, Flavored Cocoa. Those seemed nice. She sifted through the options quickly before looking up, feeling eyes on her. No, no eyes on her. Yet, she did see some faces from her school. How funny, seemed other kids were having trouble sleeping tonight. Or just wanted a midnight snack.
She chuckled softly as two males began a chat. This Taylor Swift song was quite overplayed, for sure. She started feeling guilty for listening in on the two's conversation and averted her eyes quickly.
Christmas was an enjoyable holiday in Savvana's eyes. She did not carry the clique ' giving, not taking ' opinion, but she just enjoyed the cold morning air, the smells of the seasonal candles and the lights, oh, the lights. That so-called Noah fellow seemed not to enjoy it, or, atleast not as much as she did. What a shame.
The thoughts of Savvana staying in her dorm the whole while wasn't exactly too great, though. For Thanksgiving and Christmas. The thought of gorging on food on one day wasn't exactly her thought of a fun time or family bonding time. More like.. unappetizing. Especially when people didn't close their mouths. Complete turn-off. That wasn't the only reason, though. The fact that she didn't exactly have any family to talk to that wasn't doing something better was most of it. Maybe she'd just go to a movie on Thanksgiving.
Eyes wandering back to the two, she quickly looked down and bit her lip. That Kaelan boy had been lucky enough to attract a person to talk to. Maybe Savvana would be, too, or maybe it'd be best to just have this as some alone time. Whatever. If it came to it, Savvana might find herself getting up and walking over to someone else if she built up the courage.
Yet, for now, she watched as the waitress, assumed as Sydney, ambled her way.
