What is the site rating?[/size]To comply with TOS of proboards, this site is rated PG-13, which means that no graphic violence, sexuality, drug use, or language is allowed.
How twisted can my character be?As twisted as you want! Anything is welcome here, taboos included. I don't care what you bring in as long as your posts stay pg-13 in rating, anything higher than that needs to stick to e-mail, MSN/AIM, Chatzy, whatever you want that is outside this board. I'd hope that everyone on here is mature enough to understand just because you RP something that is considered "wrong" or "not normal" doesn't mean that you as a person would actually do any of these things or that you support it.
So, are taboo plots welcome?Absolutely. Like I said above, as long as it's not too graphic. If you get singled out or harassed because of something that you're RPing in the c-box, private Chatango message, PM through the site, or any other way, come to me right away and I'll deal with it. This site is home for the weird and twisted so don't be afraid to bring out the oddities.
Can my adult character have been a student at St. Helena's?Sure! Not all the staff will have gone there, of course, but it is an option.
What if I want my high school character to take a class not on the list?Well, this is a small town, so the chances of having too many class choices is not very likely; however, if it is a class that would fit, I might add it if you asked.
Can I have a scene that takes place in the past?
Sure, just post it on the right board.
Is the site LGBT friendly?
Yes, it is. Respecting others is a huge thing for me. If you have any problems with a member (not a character because there are bound to be homo/transphobic characters) attacking you for anything, including what you're portraying your character as, come to me.
I'm having issues getting my word count up. Is there anything I can do?
I've got the perfect guide for you. It's on Caution2.0 so you need a free account there to view it, but it's really helpful. In fact, here is a bunch of writing guides that can really help for all kinds of writing troubles.
I want to avoid a cliched or Mary/Gary Sue character. Can you help?
You know what? Caution has an area for character help that has many tutorials and tips on how to create a well rounded character. This site really does have it all.
I don't have a program to resize graphics, that's why they don't meet your requirements.
Well, this is easily solved. There are free sites like Photobucket, TinyPic, Picnik, etc. that lets you upload your pictures and edit them as well as resize and cropping them. It's really simple and like I said free! So, try to use those, because really it just creates more work for the staff and you if we have to ask you to resize something. The site automatically resizes graphics bigger than 500pix but don't rely on that too often if at all, please. It slows down the loading time for people with slower connections.
I don't like what you have on this site.
Simple solution there. Leave. Nobody is making you stay. It's a place to have fun and imagine. It's a place to step out of the ordinary, and if it's going to make you angry enough to flame us, just leave. We'll respect your view that you don't like the subject material as long as you respect that we are here writing, enjoying chatting with each other, and taking part in something fictional that we as people don't necessarily believe in.
I don't know anything about the disorders I'm wanting to portray, but I don't have the time to do extensive research.
We're not asking you to be an expert on the area your character is sorted into, as long as you have the general gist of things. Wikipedia and Google are great devices to help you learn more, though. Some research time is kind of key to this site, though. It doesn't seem as realistic if you don't at least have some sort of knowledge about what you're writing. If you still have questions, feel free to ask for some help in the c-box, people will be more than glad to help you with something. Or if you feel uncomfortable announcing something like that, PM me or one of the site staff members and they will do what they can to assist you. That's what we're here for. ♥
Is there a principal?
Yes, there is. See the canon list.
Do you allow junior high students?
No. It is a high school, meaning if you're not at least a freshmen, you don't go here.
What happens during the summer?
Summer break runs from about mid-May to the beginning of August, and during this time students can stay at St. Helena's, if their families so desire, or they may return home where their parents decide how to handle them.
Can my character leave campus?
Well, that really just depends. Most students are free to come and go as if they were at a regular boarding school, but some are not. Students who have recently been under isolation for whatever reason, students who are under close watch for whatever reason, and students on suicide watch would not be allowed off campus either at all or without an attendant, such as a member of the medical staff. Other than that, it's an open campus.
Can the students get kicked out?
No, they cannot. St. Helena's is not a regular high school and students cannot get kicked out. They can graduate or they can get pulled out by their parents, the law enforcement, or a psychiatrist. No student would be "kicked out" for any reason.
What is isolation?
If your character does something to hurt another character and gets caught, if they're caught with items they're not supposed to have, if they're caught where they're not supposed to be, if they've done something really serious, they would be put in isolation. Isolation would be a room in the medical wing where they are, as the name implies, isolated. The only time they see someone is when a member of the medical staff checks on them, brings their medication or food, etc.
What happens when they graduate?
That would be up to you. If they're "normal" by the time they graduate, then they're free to go live their lives as normal people. If they're not, then they'd be transferred to an actual mental hospital. If they fail, then they repeat whatever year they failed. However, once they reached the age of 20, if they still haven't graduated or been released, they'd be sent on to a mental hospital.
How do they keep the students from bringing in banned items?
All students go through a search upon arrival. They, themselves, are checked as well as all of their belongings. Also, there are random room checks to make sure the students haven't brought in items they shouldn't have. Some students are going to get away with having something they shouldn't, some will continue to get away with it, but realistically, some of them will also get caught.
Is there a dress code?
There is a dress code, but there is no uniform. The dress code is as follows:
Girls: Skirts and shorts must not rise up past mid-thigh, tank tops must at least have an inch wide strap, no top must be too low cut, undergarments must not be seen, no halter tops or belly shirts are allowed.
Boys: Jeans and shorts must not be worn too low, undergarments must not be seen, muscle shirts are only allowed underneath a t-shirt.
Both: No spandex allowed, no alcohol/drug paraphernalia, no shirts with nudity or vulgar words, no shirts with the sides cut away past mid-chest, no pajamas in class.

My application has been declined. Now what?
You will be sent a PM explaining what the issue was, and one you have corrected the mistakes, reply to your moved application (which will be in the pending board), and let the staff know you have fixed it. Someone will check it over again ASAP.
Can my character be pregnant?
You must PM me before you can have a pregnant character, period.
Can my character skip classes?
Well, obviously, but the chances of the student getting away with it are slim. Students are required to be in classes unless they are ill and in their dorms or the infirmary (which the illness must be verified by one of the medical staff), in a counseling session or somewhere else on campus with a pass from another teacher (and all teachers whose classes are being missed are notified), are in isolation, or they are not on campus for a family emergency. Exceptions include students that are temporarily in the hospital. Any student who feigns an illness to get out of class will be caught. Any student that does not show up to their classes throughout the day without an excuse from one of the above reasons will face possible consequences including but not limited to: extra homework, detention, loss of town visiting rights, and isolation at the discretion of the vice principal or principal.
