i can live without you but without you i'll be miserable at best It was early, much earlier than Izzy had intended on being up. However, he had been woken up by a shouting match in the hallway and had not been able to go back to sleep. So, the teen got up and ready for the day, taking a shower before heading out to the local Starbucks to grab some coffee and a treat from the bakery. He returned to the campus with it, but did not want to sit in the annex. That ran too much of a risk of a lot of people. So, he found his way over to the bleachers and sat somewhere around the middle, cradling his warm drink in his hand as his backpack and his pumpkin scone sat next to him on the bench. He had chosen a pumpkin spice latte to drink, his favorite. It was one he wished they had year round. The wind was up slightly, enough to ruffle the grass, his hair, and rustle the leaves in the trees and along the ground. It only added to the cool morning air, which had Izzy shivering a little. His small stature often had him quite a bit colder than everyone else. Even in the thick coat he wore, with his warm drink in hand, his cheeks and nose were red and his lips were faintly tinted purple, even with the nude lipstick he wore that day. He knew he would likely end up with a cold, but who would pass up that excuse to miss classes? Isa sure would not. He did not like going to classes, only because of the sheer number of students that squeezed into the halls. He had permission to be late to classes, so he could avoid the crowded halls and walk them by himself and not have a panic attack. The teen gasped at a sudden bird call as a crow swooped by in front of him, jumping a little, which made him spill his drink slightly. "Oh," the generally quiet teen breathed as he quickly looked at his jeans and coat sleeves to make sure he had not spilled any on himself. Luckily for him, he had not. Isa smiled slightly at that fact and then proceeded to pull out his trusty notebook, where he wrote all the time. He worked on one of his stories, humming faintly to himself until he heard the sound of someone walking nearby, which made him look up and around, only he did not see anyone. It meant that there could be someone along the side of the bleachers, or even under them and he just could not see. That thought had him on edge almost immediately. "Who's there?" he asked in a timid voice.

Skylar groaned loudly once her alarm clock started loudly ringing. She rolled over and suddenly figured out just how close to the edge of her bed she was. Sitting up grumpily, Sky rubbed her eyes and turned off her alarm clock. Running a hand through her hair, she stood up and walked into the bathroom that was attached to her dorm. Yawning loudly, she quickly stepped into the shower and turned the hot water on. Around an hour later, she was completely ready. Sky stood in front of the mirror and fixed her hair once more. Looking over herself critically, she smiled at her reflection and walked out. On the way out of her room, she grabbed her bag and jacket then moved over to the door and turned the knob.
Sky pulled her jacket on completely and shouldered her bag as she walked down the hallway and out of the building that the girls' dorms are in. Instinctively, Sky tugged her gloves further up her arms after they fell about a half of an inch. She then stuck her hands into her jean pockets and started playing with the small box that was in her left one. Cigarettes. Sky was fully aware of how much trouble she'd be in if she got caught smoking, but she didn't care. Quickening her pace slightly, Sky walked the familiar route to the sports field. The metal form of the bleachers quickly came into view and she ducked underneath them.
Once she was far enough under the bleachers, she knelt down and pulled out the small box from her pocket. Taking her cigarette out, Sky put the box back into her pocket and took the small zippo lighter from where she kept it in her right converse. She had just lighted the cigarette when a crow cawed loudly. Sky winced slightly as her back started hurting, so she decided to walk around a little. She had completely walked out from under the bleachers when someone spoke above her. Jumping again, Sky looked around but couldn't see anyone. He must be sitting on the bleachers. She automatically pictured a teacher and was sure that she was about to get caught.
After taking a deep breath, Sky walked around the side of the bleachers and saw a guy with really long hair sitting down. He had a cup and some type of pastry in his hand. She let out a breath. “God, you scared me.” She climbed up the bleachers and took a seat beside him. “I'm Skylar. Want one?” She asked holding her cigarette up to show him what she was talking about. “Just promise you won't tell anyone.” WORDCOUNT:: Four hundred and forty-eight (448) MUSICPLAYING:: Rhythm of Love by Plain White T's CURRENTMOOD:: idk POSTTAGGEDFOR:: Izzy CHARACTEROUTFIT:: I'll make one in a second. i can live without you but without you i'll be miserable at best Izzy blinked slowly as this girl came over and sat down next to him. He almost wanted to shift away from her, but the last thing he wanted was to upset her or anything. He did not know anything about her. What if she was the violent type or something? Sure, she was being friendly enough, but that did not mean anything. Things were not always what they seemed. He shook his head a little at the offer. "I don't smoke," he replied. He closed his notebook, never liking even the idea of somebody possibly reading what he had written. His drink was still clutched firmly in his hands and he absently glanced over at the morning treat he had gotten himself sitting down on his other side. He was unsure what to do or say, and it was only then that he realized she had introduced herself, but he had yet to do the same. "I'm, uh... I'm Izzy," he said with a faint, polite smile, otherwise not really sure what to do. He bit his lip lightly as he looked at the front cover of his well-loved notebook. He felt completely unsure and awkward and really wished that one of the people he was actually friends with were there. He had very few of them, but he felt comfortable around them, sometimes right away. Generally, though, he was just cautious of everyone, expecting the worst in them all. Especially in guys that were bigger than he was. Which, that was not very hard to do. Pretty much any guy was bigger than he was. Were it not for the coffee in his hands, Isa would have been wringing them and fidgeting more than he was already. He wished he had stayed in his room. There he had his bear, which was his most comforting possession. Out there in the open, he had nothing and no one. His chest tightened and he felt near a panic attack, like he usually was around new people. He really did not like this. He did not like having to deal with someone he did not know. He could never predict their reactions to things; and, that was dangerous. "N-not to be rude, but... why are you up this early?" He had not expected anyone to be out and about, especially not a student. The sun was barely starting to peek over the horizon and there was still a while before classes. Maybe he had expected to see one of the coaches, or a few of the football guys coming out to practice. Of course, if any of those jocks came out, Isa would leave. It ran too much of a risk of him getting hurt. Typically, fooball guys were not very tolerant of silly little feminine boys in girls' clothing. Izzy had learned this already and he did not want a repeat of being hit on, only to get teased and taunted instead when the guy realized he was not a girl.

Sky shrugged when he turned down her offer of a cigarette. She smiled lightly to herself when she imagined her counselor’s reaction if he found out that she was smoking. It would almost be worth getting caught and having her cigarettes taken up to see his face. She noticed some words on the open page of his notebook right before he closed it. “You write?” She asked. She wasn't going to try and get him to show her whatever he wrote or anything, she was just curious.
Skylar absent mindedly tugged on the bottom of her jacket sleeve. She knew that it would be impossible to see her scars even if the jacket sleeve did come up far enough since she had gloves on, but it was just a habit of hers. The guy drew her attention back to him when he spoke again, introducing himself as Izzy. She looked up at him to see a faint smile on his lips and returned it with a warm one of her own. “Nice to meet you Izzy. I think we might have some classes together. You seem familiar.” She said.
Sky looked Izzy over. She noticed almost immediately that his clothes seemed very girly, and so did he to an extent. Then she noticed him biting his lip and looking down at his notebook. He must not be very used to talking to new people.
After a few seconds, Sky turned her attention away from him again. She didn't want to make him feel any more uncomfortable than he probably already did by staring at him. Raising her hand to her lips, Sky took a drag from the cigarette. She turned her head further away from Izzy before slowly exhaling. If he didn't smoke, he probably wouldn't want smoke blown into his face. She looked down and found herself tugging on her sleeves again.
Izzy spoke again, asking her why she was up this early. Sky shrugged. “I get up this early so I can come out an smoke while there isn't that many people up. It makes it easier to make that I don't get caught. What about you?” She asked, looking at him again. Sky leaned back against the seat behind her and looked at her cigarette. The originally small white stick was less than half the size of it was when she lit it. The red line was growing closer to her fingers.
She took one more drag from it before putting it out on the bleachers. She let the cigarette fall in between the gap under the seat. Sky grabbed her bag that was resting beside her legs and dug through it. Finally she found what she was looking for and pulled out a package of gum. Taking one piece out, she unwrapped it and then popped it into her mouth. Then, Sky held the almost-full package out to Izzy. “Want a piece?”
Looking around again, Sky noticed how empty everything looked. There was no one around beside Izzy and herself, at least not that Sky could see. This was so much different than the courtyard or annex, where she normally hung out before school (When she wasn't sneaking off to smoke a cigarette.) There was always a lot of people there and it was generally pretty loud with so many voices all talking at the same time. "It's so quiet out here,” she said. i can live without you but without you i'll be miserable at best He would have given anything to be alone in his room, right at the moment, curled up on his bed to snuggle with his stuffed bear. That would make him feel so much better than he did sitting there, focusing on breathing in order to not push himself into a panic attack. He subtly shifted away from Sky again, feeling much too close, and chewed on his lower lip. One day, he would end up biting a hole through it, if he kept up. His eyes widened faintly at her question about him writing and he absently clutched the notebook closed tighter with the hand that was not curled around his rapidly cooling coffee. "I-I, u-uhm... uh... sometimes," he answered simply. Well, simply once he got past the whole stammering thing. That was not too simple, but it happened often enough that Isa rarely thought about it. "Nice to meet you Izzy. I think we might have some classes together. You seem familiar." Izzy shrugged a little in response, setting aside his coffee so that he could toy with the edges of his notebook with both hands. He could not be sure if she was in his classes or not. He did not have a habit of focusing on the students around him. If he did, he would likely send himself into panic mode on a daily basis. He tried to avoid full on panic attacks as much as he could, though he spent a lot of the time wandering around with a tight chest from panic trying to set in. Mini-attacks were such a normal part of Izzy's life that he rarely even considered them panic attacks. "I dunno," he finally mumbled in response, shrugging a little again, though he was not sure it was noticeable with his coat on.
"I get up this early so I can come out an smoke while there isn't that many people up. It makes it easier to make that I don't get caught. What about you?" Izzy felt terrible that he was just sitting there like an idiot, struggling to be able to say more than two words to this girl. She seemed decent enough. Then again, a lot of people did from the start. If he let his guard down, she might just wait to hurt him, then. It was better to take things really slowly and treat Sky no differently than he would any other stranger; keep a distance, answer questions politely, and try to find a way out without being rude. Rudeness often ended up with a punishment. Isa did not want that. "C-could... I, uhm... u-u-unable to sleep." Of course, his stutter had to make him sound a million times worse. Isa thought he sounded like an idiot or something. He was often told how ridiculous he sounded when he stammered like that. He could not help it, though. It often happened when he was nervous; and, meeting someone new always made him nervous.
Rule one of self-preservation was to never accept things from people you just met. Iz had found that out a long time ago. A boy in his elementary school had given him a piece of gum, or offered it at least, but the kid used it as an excuse to distract Izzy while some other kids got water to dump on him. He had gone home crying that day, only to apologize for getting the carpet wet as he got yelled at. Izzy shook his head in response to the question about the gum, though he softly thanked her for the offer. He was not going to take anything from a stranger. Never again. Nope. Izzy nodded a little at her comment about the quiet. "I-I like i-it," he stammered out, nodding a little again. He had always been fond of the quiet. When things were quiet, it meant that nothing was going on. Often times, high noise levels freaked him out. Things like football games would have him so far on edge the smallest thing would send him into a panic attack. "N-nothing bad ha-happens when it's quiet." Isa worried at his lower lip, casting a side glance over at the girl next to him, still trying to make a decision on what he thought about her. Though, at the same time, he knew that no matter what he thought, he would be so very cautious and wary and unsure what to do with himself while she was there.

Sky looked over at Izzy and noticed that he had moved away from her. He looked really uncomfortable, so she slid away from him a little bit. “Are you okay?” She asked, a concerned expression crossed her face. Sky picked at her jeans, removing some of the lint that got stuck on them. After doing that for a few seconds, she started drumming on her knee. She looked back up at Izzy when he said that he wrote sometimes. A smile appeared on her lips. “That's cool. I write stories sometimes, but they aren't very good.”
Sky continued drumming out her little improv song on her knee. About a minute or two later, she decided that the song was over and stopped. She looked up again when he spoke. Her shoulders rose and fell in a shrug. Maybe she just had him mixed up with someone else. She stared twirling her hair around her index finger. She sighed and looked at Izzy once again out of the corner of her eye. She could tell that he was uncomfortable around her but didn't know what to do to make him feel more comfortable and trust her at least a little bit. How could she expect him to do that though? She barely trusted anyone at all.
Sky put her gum back into its wrapper and sat it down beside her on the bleacher before grabbing her bag. She dug into it and pulled out a few pieces of candy. After taking the wrapper off, she popped a Hershey's Kiss into her mouth. She swallowed the small piece of chocolate and then ate another piece of candy. Sky nodded when Izzy said that he wasn't able to sleep. “I hate when I have to get so early just because I can't sleep. Well, I hate getting up early period.” She said. Sky was so not a morning person at all.
She shrugged when he turned down her offer of a piece of gum. “Suit yourself.” She put the package of gum back into her bag and closed it back up. Sky took her iPhone out of one of the pockets to check the time. It was way too early for her to be up and there was still a while until classes started.
Sky looked up again when Izzy spoke, saying that he liked the quiet because nothing bad happened then. She unconsciously wrinkled her nose. “I think the exact opposite. Whenever its really quiet, I always think that something bad is about to happen. Its like in the movies whenever they say 'it's quiet...too quiet' then the bad guy jumps out or something. I guess we all have a different way of thinking of it though.” Sky said, rambling a bit.
Then she looked at him and realized something. That was one of the first times he actually said a complete sentence that was more than a few words long. “Hey! You actually said a sentence that wasn't a few words long or a question. I'm shocked.” She smiled to show that she was just playing around.
Her eyes traveled down to her dark purple skinny jeans and noticed that there were a few pieces of lint and stuff that she missed when she was picking at them earlier. Sky picked them off and let the small pieces of lint or whatever it happened to be fall to the part of the bleachers below her feet. “So...What class do you have first?” she asked while still picking at her jeans. Once she was satisfied that all of the stuff was off of her jeans, she looked up over the football field. Sky was sure that she had at least one class with Izzy, but she didn't know which one it was. i can live without you but without you i'll be miserable at best No, no he was not okay. He was far from okay. He was left in a school where he did not know anybody, with his only source of comfort being a stuffed bear up in his dorm. He was expected to be social and 'come out of his shell' and all that jazz. He just could not do it. He wanted to make friends and to have someone to be close to; but, that would mean trusting somebody, and that was not going to happen. At least not easily or anytime soon. Isa, as much as he was glad to be away from his father, was missing his home. Instead of saying all that to the girl, though, Isa smiled and nodded a little, continuing to play with the edges of his notebook. "I think the exact opposite. Whenever its really quiet, I always think that something bad is about to happen. Its like in the movies whenever they say 'it's quiet...too quiet' then the bad guy jumps out or something. I guess we all have a different way of thinking of it though." Isa did not watch scary movies, so he did not exactly know what she was talking about. He was scared enough as a day-to-day basis that he did not need to purposely scare himself with a movie. That was just a bad idea. In the house that he was raised in, the quiet was the only time he was not getting hurt or yelled at. If it was quiet, it meant his dad was passed out or away, and both of those were very good things. Isa did miss the man slightly. After all, he was Izzy's father. "I-I just like the quiet," Issac replied with a slight shrug, keeping his gaze on the top of his notebook. If he looked at the other student too much, he would end up freaking himself out more than he was already.
"Hey! You actually said a sentence that wasn't a few words long or a question. I'm shocked." Izzy was not exactly quite sure what to make of that teasing comment. He really just did not know what to think about everything. He wanted to be more normal, to be able and sit there and have a decent conversation with someone new without feeling his chest tighten and his pulse quicken. The small boy just smiled slightly in response, nodding a little while brushing his hair back out of his eyes. He absently wet his lips at the question about what class he had first and he flicked his hair back out of his eyes. "E-English II first. Then, German I, ethics, Algebra II, mixed choir, piano, a-and creative writing." He nodded a little, biting his lip lightly as he messed with the edges of his notebook. He was actually looking forward to classes. Well, sort of. They were enough of a distraction to be okay, as long as he did not have to be in the hallways when they were crowded. The thought alone simply made his chest tighten some more and he almost had to force out a breath. He busied himself with reaching over and actually starting to pick at the pumpkin pastry he had gotten himself. He was not sure what to say to this girl, though he wanted to try to be more social. He just did not now how.

She couldn't quite place what it was, but Sky didn't believe it when the boy smiled and nodded in response to her question. Something told her that there was quite a few things that kept the boy from being okay like he said that he was. Figuring that she probably wouldn't get an actual answer out of him, and not really expecting one, she let the question go.
Sky shrugged too when Izzy said that he just liked the quiet. Personally, the quiet always creeped her out. If it was loud, at least she knew what was going on and what to expect. She understood how a lot of people liked the quiet though. Sky looked over at Izzy and wondered how he ended up in this place. She had to stop herself from asking though because it was probably a touchy subject for most of the students at the school. A few people, like Sky, were easy to guess how they got here. Sighing. Sky looked over the football field. She knew that Macy was just trying to help when she sent Sky here, but that didn't change the fact that she hated it here. Why couldn't everyone understand that she didn't want to get better this time? Getting better sucked.
Sky watched as a little bird flew down and landed a few seats in front of them, looking for anything it could eat. The small creature pecked at something on the metal that Sky couldn't quite make out and then hopped a few feet before looking around again. About a minute later, the bird seemed to decide that there wasn't anything worth eating on the bleachers and flew down to the ground to continue its search.
Sky was pulled back to the conversation at hand when Izzy told her his whole schedule. She noticed that he had two English classes, English II and creative writing. “Cool. We have Algebra and Mixed Choir together,” she said. Sky hated almost half of her classes, but she loved the other ones so they kind of evened out. She talked through most of the classes that she didn't like anyway.
Sky pulled her iPhone out of her pocket and looked at the time. They still had a little bit left before the first bell was supposed to ring. She sat there for a few seconds trying to think of something that she could say. Looking over at Izzy, she asked the first question that came to her mind. “So, do you have any brothers or sisters?” she asked, thinking of her two younger siblings. Josh was somewhere around here, and she didn't know where Suzie was.
